The Sumatran Elephant, like many other iconic species, is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to conservation. This charismatic species serves as an ambassador, a familiar face from the forest, in the grand marketing scheme of wildlife conservation. What we rarely see, however, is the weight it carries behind its back—an entire ecosystem, encompassing the bizarre, the forgotten, and the ones yet to be discovered, lurking behind the shadow of the beast.
